Running School Going Strong With Ten Schools

We are pleased to continue long-term relations with many fantastic schools, and welcome some new schools to the program. We serve around 5,000 kids at our partner schools, which are hand-picked on the basis of interest and support on-campus for kids fitness and a desire to serve a broad socioeconomic group.

We have a great group of enthusiastic young coaches, led by popular local youth basketball coach/trainer David Garcia, Connor Curley, a recent graduate of Sacramento State University and accomplished ultramarathon runner, and Ben Rinn, another recent Sac State grad who shocked the local running scene with an amazing 2:31 marathon debut last December in Sacramento. Our high energy coaches get out there to run and have fun with the kids!

Donation Request

With charitable grant funding down in recent economic times, we appreciate donations to keep our streamlined program running. 100% of your donation directly impacts kids by paying staff and maintaining equipment. We spend zero on fundraising or other indirect expenses that don't immediately relate to getting kids moving their bodies. Please consider even a modest donation and click here to contribute via PayPal.

2nd Whole Foods Running School Family Fun Run and Health Expo Great Success!

Over 1,000 runners enjoyed the 5k, 10k, 13.1-mile runs, starting at Whole Foods Market in Roseville, CA in the magnificent Fountains at Roseville shopping center. Another couple hundred kids enjoyed the free 1-mile Kids Fun Run, assorted physical challenges at the race expo (climbing wall, inflatable obstacle course and spider maze climb) and entertainment from BMX ramp jumpers, Mort the Sport (kids activity promoter) and Dinger the River Cats mascot.

We have decided to move this event to the summertime and will hold another 2012 edition of the Family Fun Run on Sunday, August 26th! Please join us for this great event celebrating healthy, active lifestyles for the whole family!

Running School Student Wins Bike From REI at Fun Run Raffle!

Pictured is Salvador of Garden Valley Elementary School in Sacramento, CA, who won a mountain bike donated by REI at the Whole Foods Market Running School Family Fun Run! Salvador is using his new ride to commute to school and stay healthy and fit! A helmet was donated by a caring teacher at his school upon news of his big win.

Running...and Writing About It!

Rob Myers, principal at FC Joyce Elementary School and driving force behind Running School partnering with Garden Valley Elementary (his former school) and FC Joyce (he's new principal this year), forwarded this great message from Student Support Specialist Mrs. Dobrow at FC Joyce.

Writing about one of her students, an English-learner who started school late and is working to keep up in 2nd grade, Mrs. Dobrow related: "Teachers rarely have opportunities to see dramatic leaps such as the one this second grader made today. We have been working with Vincent to help him learn to read, and he has also been working very hard. Today, inspired by the Running School races, he WROTE A SENTENCE about his experience. Bravo, Vincent!"
