Anne Brown - Coach and Program Coordinator
Anne manages relationships with Running School coaching staff, schools, grantors and sponsors, as well as serving as a high-energy coach at Running School events. Anne previously worked as Business Manager for Sierra Montessori, a start-up public charter school in Auburn, California. Anne is in her fourth year as Business Manager for Sierra Preschool, a non-profit parent co-op preschool in Auburn. She served as the pre-school board President, and was the Sacramento Regional Council President for the California Council of Parent Participation Nursery Schools. Prior to moving to the foothills, Anne worked in the Bay Area for 15 years as an international property underwriter in the insurance and reinsurance industry. She received a B.A. in French with a Business Minor from the University of Richmond, Virginia.

Anne hails from an athletic family. Her father Tom Shively was the starting quarterback at Arizona State University from 1954-1956 and her brother played Division I basketball at Central Connecticut State College and BYU. While growing up in Connecticut, Anne played varsity field hockey, basketball and tennis. Today, Anne competes on several Sacramento Area Tennis Association and U.S. Tennis Association teams representing the Auburn Racquet & Fitness Club, and is an avid skier and outdoor enthusiast. Anne lives in Auburn and is married to Greg. They have two elementary school-age children, Hannah and Claire.

Staci Sassarini - Coach and Advisory Board Member
Staci, with Brad Kearns, conceived of the Skyridge Olympics in 2004 and has co-produced over a dozen Olympics competitions at Skyridge in the past three years. Staci produces the annual Skyridge Jog-A-Thon. In 2006, she changed the format from a lap-counting competitive event to a festive free for all with costumed mascots, a hay-bale obstacle course and a fund raising victory resulting in a contribution of over $20,000 to the Skyridge PTC.

Staci is a former national caliber track and field athlete in the heptathlon and the javelin throw. She participated in the 1992 and 1996 Olympic trials in the javelin, is a three-time All American and member of the Track and Field Hall of Fame at San Francisco State University. A graduate of North High School in Salinas, California, Staci starred in volleyball, field hockey, softball and track and field. Her exploits earned her female athlete of the year at North High as well as a nomination (along with her brother and her sister!) as one of the greatest athletes of the century in the Salinas Valley. Today, Staci continues her competitive career, traveling all over the state to compete in softball tournaments with her elite squad.

Staci earned a degree in journalism at San Francisco State University. She taught kindergarten in San Carlos, California for three years, coached field hockey at North Salinas High for two years, conducted a summer volleyball camp at Hartnell Junior College for three years and has coached in the Auburn youth soccer and baseball leagues for the past four years. Staci is married to Jerry and lives in Auburn. She has two elementary school aged children, Anthony and Riley.

Joan Lewis - Coach and Advisory Board Member
Joan, with Staci Haswell and Brad Kearns, has co-produced the Skyridge Olympics since 2004. She is a national caliber distance runner, dominating her age group in competitions all over Northern California. Joan’s stunning personal record time of 17:52 in the 5k in the over-40 division is on a par with an accomplished collegiate female distance runner.

Joan coached cross country and track at Del Oro High School in Loomis, California for 19 years before retiring in 2003. She has conducted an after school cross country and track program for Skyridge students for three years, introducing kids grades 2-5 to the basics of long distance running and track and field competition. Besides conducting the program at partner schools, Joan contributes greatly to the development and ongoing refining of the curriculum for Running School coaches. Joan has a degree in Physical Education from Humboldt State University and a Teaching Credential from Sacramento State University. Joan and Norm have two young children, Taylor and Zachary, and they live in Auburn.
